You are quite correct. Most Americans unfortunately believe that the US invasions of the last 50 years had something to due with "democracy" Actually, US foreign policy is not concerned with another country's political system. The USA has supported and destryed deomcracies, monarchies and dictatorships. The key to US support is the type of economy a country employs. An economy which caters to the fortune 500, ie, ceding control of the land, labor, resources and markets, is welcome. If not, bang!
