September 1999
In 1999 the population of the Philippines stood at 65 million but by the year 2020 this could have doubled. The government says this will be a catastrophe.
The aim is to lower the birth rate with no regard for religion and secular opposition. Widespread food shortages and mass disease attacks would bring disaster. The religious position feels it is not the problem of population but the redistribution of wealth. But young people feel the church is out of date and does little to provide the poor with food and money. The young see that it is sensible to disobey the church and use contraception to have small families instead of struggling to feed many hungry mouths.

Unless you've experienced the Philippines development growth and visit the country to see the growth you can't say anything about the Philippines. I go the the Philippines every 2 or 3 years and really, it never seizes to amaze ma at how different it is getting (Positive difference). I just came back from a month in The Philippines yesterday. It's been 3 years. It has changed DRASTICALLY, well from an Americans, First World perspective. Look at some of the Philippines projects online.

if the catholic church does not approve contraception to limit the population, the church then should open all their doors to all those millions of starving children and feed them. Perhaps they will re think of their stand. By the way, i'm a catholic.

@bigaallaann not the church but the religious community.you can't stop couple from having sex its part of marriage stuff to stay it work.y here in canada people here don't stop sex to stop baby,they use contraceptives and condoms.etc,and it works!!!they have sex educations and stuff like that.and it works!!!we are modernized now,lots of sex movie on enternet and tv.we can't stop youngsters from watching those crap!!!

@jimmytwoshoes2009 Wrong,part of the problem is the Mayor in Manila has refused free contraception to all people! His attitude is why should the tax payer subsidise free contraception? If I am correct there is a pending court case to be heard filed on behalf of the poor Pinoys living in slum areas...
Yes,sex education is being provided via some govt agencies.You also have the church interfering on birth control and religious groups.

we can't stop couples from having sex.youngters from being curious.so goverment have to do something to impuse contraception.to control the population
