Eight years have passed since Laura Bush declared that "because of our recent military gains, women are no longer imprisoned in their homes" in Afghanistan. For eight years, that claim has been a lie.
The truth is that American military escalation will not liberate the women of Afghanistan. Instead, the hardships of war take a disproportionate toll on women and their families. There are 1,000 displaced families in a Kabul refugee camp, and they're suffering for lack of food and blankets. A few weeks ago, you generously gave $6,000 to help and $9,000 more is needed to take care of all 1,000 families. Thats a donation of $15 per family to provide the relief necessary for their survival.

Actually I think our military forces should leave the entire middle east, but I don't think anything will improve for the women, it may get much worse I'm sorry to say. I agree, no outside force can liberate you. You have to liberate yourself.

@js7un you know that "unliberated" woman get more respect than the "liberated" women in the US. Just because a woman wears a burka that doesnt necessarily mean that she is wearing it against her will. I mean if that's the case, we American women should be liberated as well because we wear the latest fashions 'cause we have to, to fit in. The state of women's rights' in Afghanistan is not influenced by government or military influence but on the stone-age religions that their government is based upon! These religions that see women as "inferior" to men are both terrible and a crime to humanity itself, religion has brought nothing but war, prejudice, hate, and ignorance not only in Afghanistan but all throughout the world. If you truly want to "liberate" women from this oppressive power, abolish religion itself!

@jackiebaron I don't think it's fair to compare each of those countries and their human rights, either man or woman, because each country has their own particular situation. Saudi's have limited freedom for women, but it some areas they are improving, while in Uzbekistan the entire government oppresses all sorts of human rights for each gender under a dictatorship-like government. The US is only a country interested in protecting itself, as all countries are. Raising awareness can help.
